Civics Question

30 August 2006

Can somebody tell this old NCO where in the Constitution of the United States of America does it say anything about the separation of Church and State?  I ask this because I have a feeling that Sarge’s copy of the Constitution of the United States of America is missing a page or two.  Actually, since Sarge has more that one copy, they are all missing that page.  For the Constitutionaly challenged of you, my copy says nothing about the separation of Church and State.  And the first one of you that opens his pie hole and says anything remotely like “Well, Sarge, the First Amendment . . .” will be stood against a wall and be subjected to copious amounts of ridicule from Sarge and Co.  Folks, nowhere in the Constitution of the United States of America is the separation of Church and State mentioned.  According to, here is what the First Amendment says about it:

Amendment I – Freedom of Religion, Press, Expression. Ratified 12/15/1791. Note

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

As you know, I spent 20 years in the Air Force and every so often, I was required to swear an oath to support and defend this document that is the basis of our laws.  Since I swore that oath, I thought it would be a good idea to gain an understanding of what it said and what the Founding Fathers were thinking when they wrote it.

Now, for bonus points, where does the concept of the Separation of Church and State come from?  Double points if you are under the age of 30.  Double again, if you are a product of publik skool.

Katrina – One year later (or do I really care?)

29 August 2006

I see that this week that several networks are doing “specials” on Katrina.  I am real tired afo hearing about Katrins.  It is just more Bush bashing.  While Katrina was a large and dangerous storm, but we have people in this area that are still trying to put their homes back together from Ivan in 2004.  Heck, I still have stuff to do as a result of Dennis in 2005.  Where are the “documentaries” about our “suffering?”  Here is the difference, after Ivan, while I was cleaning up my own property and getting my life back to normal, we not only cleaned our stuff, we went and helped the NEIGHBORS so that we could get our NEIGHBORHOOD back to normalcy.  When the voluteers came through to assist us in getting powered restored, we dipped into our water supply to share with them, it was the neighborly thing to do and we actually said thanks.  After Dennis decided to come through, Sarge and CINCHOUSE decided to purchase a generator and be better prepared.  We have a room in the command post that we can move into to sleep, we can surf the internet, and we have satellite TV available.  We are prepared to hold out for about 5 days which allows time for the various agencies to mobilize and move in to assist where needed.  We don’t demand that Uncle Sam be the first in, that is not what we do, we look to see what we need and, get this, do what we can to get it for ourselves.

To answer the question in the title; No, I DO NOT REALLY CARE!  I know people that were forced to relocate as a result and they took the steps necessary to integrate into their new community and contribute.  For those that are living in the area and actually are putting EFFORT into rebuilding, Sarge salutes you.  If you are in the area and just have a hand out demanding that you be given what you need to survive, Sarge encourages you to just STFU and go to work.

Don’t get “Stuck on Stupid!”

Wow, somepeople.

The local fishwrap has a feature called spoutoff where people can send anonymous comments about what is in the paper. Today, some leftard commented that the only reason that British authorities were able to foil the plot to blowup airplanes on their way to the US was because their rights were violated.  People, I know that I am preaching to the choir, but these people REALLY believe this stuff.  This person goes on to say that Howard “Screamin'” Dean is right and “Picking on the terrorists must stop immedately!”  My biggest fear is that person is actually going to vote this year and doesn’t have a clue that Islamic extremeist want to kill him/her and the rest of us as well.

Thanks to Guy at Charming, I found this guy

Go forth and take a look.  Be warned, he is NOT PC and not suitable for the under-18 crowd.  Some material may not be safe for work.

Wish I had thought of this . . .

The Lawdog posted this and while I do not have an extended group that I caravan with, I have selected an evacuation point and informed my out-of-area family where that is. Now, if for some reason we decide to evac with friends, I will definitely take this suggestion from LawDag to heart as I know that we will be travelling from various points around the area and meeting up.
