Sadaam Streches . . .

29 December 2006

. . . a rope, that is. MSNBC just broke in about 4 minutes ago and reported that Sadaam Huessein was executed about 15 minutes prior to that. They cited 3 Arabic news sources and Reuters, but regrettably no pictures. More to come.

Questions and Answers

26 December 2006

Why is it when I ask a question of some MWP at the local shopping meccas, I can’t get a straight answer?  For a good example, read my post below about taking the family transport to Wally World.  Yes, I know that very few MWPs do not read this blog, and they wouldn’t recognize themselves if they did, but when a customer asks a question along the lines of “about how long will this take” they really do want to know (in hours and minutes) how long will this take.  Most of the time they don’t want or need a long drawn out “well, there are X number ahead of you and it takes Y minutes per number” they would be very happy with a response more along the lines of “Sir/Ma’am, 45 minutes to an hour” and you will not look like an idiot when someone like Sarge lights you up.  They are asking because they need to make a decision and you are influencing that decision.

When I was on active duty and stationed in the wilds of Wyoming, I had a boss that would do just that.  The LT would come by with a quick question and the boss would give them drawn out version.  I would give them the straight up answer and I alsways figured that if more information was needed, then the LT would ask.  Most of the time, the LT was asking a question along the lines of “can this equipment do this?” and needed a yes or no response and not the how of making it work.

So, if you happen to be a one of the MWP that work at the local shopping emporiums, or in a service industry, please, when a customer (who you depend on for your livelihood) asks how long something is going to take, be honest and give him/her a reasonable estimate, he/she will appreciate it.

Companies hire illegals to fill jobs that legal immigrants and citizens will not do?  Is that about right?  Well, according to the Rocky Mountain News, it seems that in Greely, CO, the Swift company is finding out there are LEGAL residents that want those jobs formerly held by illegals (story here) that were taken away by ICE last week.  Now, I don’t know how many people were taken into custody from this facility, but knowing the area and how far some people have driven to apply for those positions tells me that legal residents will take those jobs.  Go forth and read the whole story for yourself.

Sarge’s New Mission Statement

13 December 2006

Wish I could take credit for this, but a Marine that I respect posted this over at Fighting the Left (click here)

“Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel in the other, totally worn out and screaming, “Holy Sh*t what a ride!”

As anybody who knows me will attest, I approach life this way and I have a habit of saying that whatever I am engaged in is “not about the destination but about the journey,” and I have every intention of having a good time along the way. So come on along and let’s see how far this train goes and when it stops we will see what there is to see and then catch the next train to somewhere. Or maybe a plane or automobile, or even the shoe leather express.

Hey ya’ll watch this!

Had to grin when I saw this on the Fox News Channel ticker yesterday afternoon.  In fact, it was so outrageous that I had to do some looking to see if it was true.  Well, folks, seems that it is.  Courtesy of Townhall.com,  you can see for yourself.  Silly string is helping to save lives.  Innovative, imaginative, and American Engineering at its finest.  While Sarge may giggle, it is a job well done and I’ll almost bet that it was some young private that thought of that and if said private isn’t an NCO, he should be.  Private SillyString, this salute is for you.

Sarge’s Swimming Notes (cont)

5 December 2006

Well, we finaly made it back to home station and we are tired.  Had a good time at the meet and SIT made finals every night.  He also made a couple of Championship cuts bringing his total to 7 and we still have almost four more months of competition to go.  Our next meet is the middle of January in Pensacola and if you are in the area, come on by the University of West Florida and watch some good swimming.
